BACKGROUND
Two lakon -Makutharama and Sesaji Raja Suya-have each been recorded in traditional, garapan, and padhat style and all recordings supplied with English and Indonesian subtitles. All six recordings feature Ki Purbo Asmoro as the dhalang, and Paguyuban Mayangkara as the gamelan musicians, resulting in an opportunity to truly compare the three styles being presented, and consider them aside from individual dhalang style.
TIMELINE
2007-2008: Six recordings in live venues completed!
2008-2009: Javanese transcriptions created from all six recordings by Kathryn Emerson, and all transcriptions carefully edited by Ki Purbo Asmoro and Bp. Sugeng Nugroho (ISI)
2009-2010: all 600 pages of Javanese material translated into Indonesian by Bp. Sugeng Nugroho and Bp. Sunardi (ISI), and all 600 pages translated into English by Kathryn Emerson
