Workshops and Performances at Jakarta International School
April 16, 2010

On April 16, 2010,  Ki Purbo Asmoro gave a full day of workshops and performances to 8-12 year-olds from over 40 different countries, at Jakarta International School. After the performances, students asked questions about his techniques, his background, and his favorite aspects of being a dhalang.

This is the third year that Ki Purbo has visited JIS to give workshops and performances. During the workshops, Ki Purbo focused on distinctions between characters (gait, voice, attitude, body posture), keprak and dhodhogan technique, as well as aspects of the lakon RAMA TAMBAK. Last year, he focused on the technique of flipping wayang. The year before, he had detailed question and answer sessions.

This is one of Ki Purbo Asmoro's strong points when he conducts workshops. No matter how detailed his plan may be beforehand, he is always keenly aware of audience interest, and instinctively, on the spot, adapts his workshops to fit each individual audience.
